Cheap hepatitis C alternative therapy

A once-a-day protease inhibitor called simeprevir, in conjunction with interferon and ribavirin, can effectively treat hepatitis C infection with fewer side effects compared to the currently utilized antiviral medication telaprevir. Simeprevir offers a more accessible, cheaper, more convenient alternative to telaprevir.

In the developed world, physicians have started to shy away from using interferon-based therapies to treat HCV in favor of all-oral antiviral treatment. The discovery of simeprevir as an efficacious treatment option with fewer side effects than telaprevir offers physicians a promising new therapy for HCV infections.
