New research suggests Multiple Scelrosis (MS) could be linked with the not as prominent Human herpesvirus 6A (HHV-6A), compared to more widesprad HHV-6B. In fact, those with MS show greater numbers of antibodies to HHV-6A viruses. The team's results showed that MS patients had a 55% higher risk of carrying antibodies against HHV-6A than healthy people, a new key finding in the search to find a cure for MS. What's so interesting in the case of MS is that MS patients tended to have lower amounts of antibodies against HHV-6B, the more common type of virus, than people without the disease. The best possible hypothesis to date is that MS might be causes by a coinfection of HHV-6A Epstein- Barr Virus. Individuals affected with both viruses — EBV and HHV-6A — had an even higher risk of developing MS. There's no solid relationship established as of date, but it is a promising start to seeing what causes the disease.
