Breaking: Zika transmission confirmed in Texas

The Texas Department of State Health services has issued a statement confirming that the first case of locally transmitted Zika has occurred. The infected person lives in Cameron County in south Texas. She is not pregnant and has not recently traveled to a region with Zika. Officials have not yet verified the route of transmission, but the Department of Health Services has been prepared for the possibility of Zika-carrying mosquitoes in the state.
